The Catholic Revolutionary French, very progressive, very democratic, very Weber spirit of capitalism, ended up, for a time, with no religion; not Protestantism, not Catholicism, no religion.
Butterfield, of course, did not put things quite this way...
The liberated Jews were the big winners. They kept their religion, such as it was and is, and used it.
Little wonder that the Czars were then allowed (nothing could have prevented them anyway) to unleash a horde of refugee Jews into Western Europe, unhindered, throughout the 19th Century, and into America in very large numbers toward the end.
Why candy coat it. Time is short.
