I DRAW A SHARP DISTINCTION BETWEEN WHISTLEBLOWING AND MUCKRAKING

I am generally not very in favor of either, but whistleblowing is a lesser of two evils.

Most of the established media almost never whistleblow, by definition.

For the media to whistleblow, by definition, they have to do it on how their own organization has functioned badly, in their judgment.

My view is that the media functions badly in general, so a media whistleblower, for me, is a species of bad joke.

That term really should be reserved for those insiders in the target entity, not media employees who are normally doing a species, as here, of muckraking not whistleblowing.

If you did muckraking research, you could probably find similar contacts of Clinton aides, or Clinton herself, with Russian intelligence.

After all, Clinton was Secretary of State.

The situation here may be the common one of a combination of whistleblowing and muckraking. The muckraker is a media tippee. He is in the media organization favoring the out of power party. The tipper is a deep state career man favoring the out of power party. He is highly expendable anyway under the spoils system nowadays. As I said, he probably is in a position to give similar information damaging to Clinton or her staff or party as bad or worse re breaches of so called political protocol. But that is not his goal.
