One is driven back to WW I, and to its end, both ideologically and militarily, again and again.
You have to recall that the US did not even understand, or want to enter, WW I.
It was only because of the Russian Revolution, in 1917, (and the Russian military and economic collapse) that the US saw its liberal way clear to fight with the British and French imperialists against the Germans and their imperialist allies, the Austro Hungarians.........
Certainly, there is no one who can tell me that the Bolsheviks would not have been susceptible to removal by the Western powers, as weak as they then were, during and after WW I?
That, certainly, would not have been a defensive war.
