I put Lincoln's decision to conquer the South and free the slaves ahead of W's, among worst decisions.
The white North, which had elected Lincoln on a platform of removal (not at all emancipation, in their wildest dreams), would have been a whole lot better off, big picture, with the negro slaves isolated in a seceded South, than later freed by Lincoln during a horrific civil war.
You didn't have a Ku Klux Klan in the North because you didn't have freed puppet negroes running the governments in the North during Reconstruction.
Breaking away from Britain still tops the list, for me.
