THE AGE OF THE DEMOCRATIC REVOLUTION THE CONTAGION OF LIBERTY
"...Those assumptions, in essence, seem to hold that any uprising against an authoritarian or dictatorial government must be a good thing, and that the United States should embrace revolutionary movements as soon as they have become large enough to fill the main square of their nation's capital city with demonstrators. That is what the United States has done, Putin points out in his speech, in Tunisia, Egypt, and Syria--with very mixed results. And that is also what both the United States and the EU did in Ukraine." DK, AS KENNAN
This has been the legacy of the Age of the Democratic Revolution in the West and in Eastern Europe, no less in rebel colonial America, Revolutionary France, or Bolshevik Russia."

FOLLOWING ON WITH THIS POST AND TOPIC:
The example of the American Rebellion is a good case study of how the whole idea had already gotten out of hand, and been weaponized, by the European powers against each other, despite the fact that each continued to abhor democratic revolution within its realm.
When the American colonists rebelled against Britain, rival powers saw an opportunity, and threw in with the rebels, making the struggle, which otherwise would have been merely a rebellion, a major European war.
Needless to say, the colonies would have had no chance otherwise, and the interests of the powers allied with them were hardly revolutionary in purpose or result.
