RE POPULISM RIGHT OR LEFT CHARLIE ROSE DAVID BROOKS "
Brooks mentions in passing the students he has had, for say 15 years, many of them went into NGO work, in Africa.
He lingered there, flitted really, on that reflection, a moment too long, giving the snipe hunter a moment to draw a bead of a contradiction, just before he veered off sharply.....

Brooks bemoans the fact that it might have been better had they done their work here in America, his own former students who went to Africa (rather than in Africa where it has done zero good by the way; he doesn't say this, but he might as well have done so).
He doesn't talk about the fact that it has been the ideology he has promoted, along with the NYT troika Friedman, and Krugman, and others, Kristol, etc, for his whole career now, which had put in place, since Woodrow Wilson really, and had kept in place through subsequent decades, the LIEO system which created, as a by product really, also called by some thinkers, now, unintended consequences, by some economists as externalities disequilibria imperfect competition asymmetries or whatever else, the ever growing need, in much of America, and throughout the West, for third world type aid.
He has always been Mr "More Free Trade Please" Brooks.
If others can make more of it cheaper, anywhere else, call them Anywhere Entrepreneurs, more power, and more market here, to em! Regardless of what happens to the so called domestic economy or welfare here.
Re " The Existing Democratic Majority ", Brooks' own article, he favors the Anywheres, those he considers like himself, liberal globalists, not the conservative globalist rightist populist Somewheres he also elsewhere criticizes, but who he now also admits have long needed the services of his own students, who have mostly been going to Africa for the last 15 or so years, instead of working on poverty and need here in America among the American Somewheres.
Why favor American Somewheres over African ones, or in fact on Brooks' own theory, over any other Somewheres anywhere? Why?
