I would just add (2015 repost and this edit), for emphasis, they had not joined in the First World War to prop up a system of imperial domination against which they had been the first people to revolt, either.
That had, after all, been why Wilson, and his staff, including especially his Secretary of State, were at first so thrilled with the Russian Revolution......
