American political candidates and campaign staff, of either party, have no idea with whom they are conversing, generally.
They have no idea whether they are dealing with foreign agents or not.
They are not advised by anyone, within the government security establishment, about these matters, whatsoever, although it cannot be the case that these matters do not come to the attention of the security agencies in the normal course of events, surveilling as they do American citizens willy nilly on a daily basis, and with a mission to ferret out foreign agents involved in domestic or international espionage.
