What does his article really show?

 

It shows the power of the media to muckrake, to latch onto a, usually trivial, misstatement, call it a lie, of a public official, often ratted out of some otherwise trivial encounter, or else even an important encounter for which there are reasons which cannot happily be brought to the ' government in the

sunshine ' constitutional light of day to disclose,  either on line or in person, by a disgruntled, or paid and/or compromised, informant within the official's organization, usually generously misdescribed as a whistleblower, and then to make whatever the editorial board decides to do with this particular bit of attempted private diplomacy, or of crap.

 

Let me tell you something: their files are filled with such information, on every public figure, not just politicians, just waiting for the moment when it seems opportune, for either ideology or merely for sensationalist profit,  for the board to take some publishing action thereon.

 

Similar files are held on Democratic public figures, those individuals for whom they are ideologically sympathetic, but held and used regularly for reasons of influence over these poor devils too. They always have been.

If you seriously think, that what you are seeing now, either from Trump, or from the NYT and Krugman, is really on a different plane again, from what you have seen, always, in the past, think again.
