One of the interesting things, the many interesting things about this drawing is that many of the portrayals in it were transformed by Daumier overtime. Researching his caricatures of Asians in a number of his graphic works, there are a fair number of caricatures of Asian subjects.
It could be seen that this drawing, which I believe to be the earliest, depicts the young woman in the front row explicitly as an Asian in the style of Daumier's other Asian subjects.
