It was not a winner for Douglas..............
Andrew Johnson tried to put in place Lincoln's supposed Reconstruction program.
Even that may have been Lincoln faux, knowing as he must have, that that program would not be approved in any event anyway.
Johnson payed dearly for it nevertheless.
