To persuade large numbers of Americans to believe almost anything it or its allies say, regardless of how disconnected from reality it is.
It has been less about either facts, or truth, but rather, it has always, deep down, been mostly about liberal ideology.
Facts and truth have normally been led, rudely harnessed and roughshod, to get to that destination.
It is an exercise in futility, cynicism, and Whiggism, now, to blame your situation on autocracy or tyranny, terms normally in the past thrown against a monarch, a prime minister, or the established clergy, in the age of the old European Order.
But you have dispensed with all those old, venerable, institutions here now.
Now, with universal suffrage, (no one else to callup now to stop him), you have only your dumb voting yourselves to blame for Trump, or for anyone!
The truth seems to be that the NYT has done a terrible job as a liberal propaganda ideologue.
'If we just globalize a little more, get more of the people of color out to vote, the system will right itself.'
Oh, surprise, Liberace admits most of the voters are still white!

That is the Truth.
And Trump, of all people, knows it.
