Orthodox Jews had actually started the neocon movement, decades ago. This is a point Professor Kaiser had pointed out.
Breitbart itself, where Bannon had come to Trump from, started, and may still be influenced by, conservative Jews at least indirectly. I discuss the neocon movement and conservative Christianity on this blog as well.
Liberal Jews have of course played a big part in American Democratic politics.
The struggle between liberal and conservative Judaism, Democratic versus Republican, if you will, has not it seems been a popular topic.
I just started reading Professor Kaiser's father's book the other day, and it has a fascinating brief discussion of Jewish political influences, and Kaiser family views, on major party figures, NY state and national, on both sides, in the early 20th Century. p.6.
It seems his grandfather had been a Republican, had favored Teddy, who came out strongly against the Kishinev Pogrom and massacre, whereas Philip, very liberal, typified the liberal Jews who went for the Democrats, especially FDR as we all know.
Kaiser's conservative Jewish grandfather was joined, ideologically, in his views by the conservative Koch family, against which Professor Kaiser likes now to rail, a conservative gentile family coming originally from Friesland, patriarch Harry Koch, and later hating the communist takeover in Russia.
Just as gentile Americans of both parties play the globalization card in their conflicting ways, the Jews of each party have played the globalization card in their distinctive ways...
For the liberal Jews, the Milner and post Milner Group, the LIEO has been their mantra since the early 20th Century. They welcomed, Wilson their proponent especially, welcomed the Soviets to the brotherhood of nations from the beginning.
For the Jewish conservatives, fighting anti semitism and upholding the rights of the individual against the state, globally, have been the watch word, with vigorous support for Israel, and opposition to Communism, socialism, and liberalism uppermost, probably thowing in generally with the John Birch Koch brothers conservatives long before the emergence of the neocon movement.
Neither conservative nor liberal Jews want to discuss the influence of Jews on American politics because each, in its intramural way, has long been forced, by the very force of numbers to rely heavily on its Christian coreligionists for political power, and acknowledging the profound influence of Jews on both parties behind the scenes cuts against the agenda of using the Christian majority as stooges for a frankly Jewish agenda of either the one or the other pole of Jewish political opinion.
In one thing, both poles have always been united: they have been implacably against the continued integrity of the nation state. This may sound strange, but that has been the case.
The nation state/empire had gotten a so called bad rap since before the 19th Century, first with the American rebellion and the French Revolution, then with so called bad Western imperialism, then with the anti semitism, bad Western nationalism, associated with the Dreyfus Affair, Western racism, and then with the Jew hating Slavic Russian pogroms, and their antisemitism, and the resulting additional anti slavism in Europe in general, and especially in Germany in particular.
It seems that the conservative Jews, however, have backpedaled somewhat in recent decades, in the face of intense general civilizational animosities, and decided to throw their lot back in with the strongest of the weak nation states of the West, able, at least for the moment, to protect them, somewhat, and perhaps bear their standard, along with Israel, in the coming apocalypse, against the global abyss now yawning before us all.
Maybe I have gotten this left right distinction a little wrong, but anyone is welcome to correct me.
One could do analogous analysis of Catholics, a similar but less discriminated against minority here. I am sure many have been done.
