See Communities Of Discourse pb. p. 402, the paragraph beginning "Although the state was not particularly responsive to socialist demands, it had a long history of intervening in the economy on behalf of workers....these measures...all were opposed by the liberal parties on the grounds that laissez faire was a more appropriate policy toward economic affairs.....Thus the socialist movement was able to unify its objectives around state-sponsored programs rather than having to carve out a distinct agenda amidst competing programs offered by liberal parties, trade unions, and voluntary associations."
Our New Deal was a liberal, bourgeoisie, laissez faire, New Deal.
